LOCAL HISTORY

Yankalilla and District Historical Society Inc was formed in 1977. Its aims include promoting community interest in local history, encouraging the preservation of historical buildings and sites, and collecting and recording items of historical interest in the district.

FAMILY HISTORY : Researching your family tree? We can help you. The society has copes of SA births, marriages and deaths, local cemeteries records, biographical index and much more. Members of the Historical Society are in attendance in the Yankalilla Library every Wednesday from 9.30 am to 12.30. The member of the Society will assist you to consult the Society’s records at this time. Other times by appointment.

LOCAL HISTORY : Interested in the history of Yankalilla district? Do you have a copy of the book To find the Way? This book was compiled by Roy Williams and published by the Yankalilla and District Historical Society Inc. It is the definitive book outlining the history of the district. The Society also has a library of other books about local history, as well as an extensive collection of old photographs.

MEETINGS : General Meetings are held at 8.00pm on the second Monday of the months of September, October, November, February, March and April. The Society goes into recess during the winter months. Meetings are held at The Centre, Main South Road, Yankalilla.
